River Line Master Plans

River Line Master Plan

Beginning in 2008, both MIC and Cobb County commissioned separate, but complementary, master plans to develop a vision for this important area. Both plans were completed in 2009 by EDAW/AECON, a professional design firm. Funding for the River Line Historic Area Master Plan was provided by The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

MIC’s River Line Historic Area Master Plan

This Plan covers the entire River Line Historic Area, which lies west of the Chattahoochee River linking Vinings, Smyrna, and Mableton. The River Line Historic Area embraces historic and natural resources near the Chattachoochee River to unite the community as a place of distinction. The Plan development was guided by a diverse stakeholder committee, culminating in the final Master Plan in July 2009. This Master plan focuses on the natural and historic resources that can be recreational and cultural assets for the community. Four documents are available:

1. Small Map
2. Poster-size Map
3. Brochure
4. Master Plan Final Report

MIC and its partner, the River Line Historic Area, are committed to the responsible stewardship of the Chattahoochee River Line through implementation of the River Line Historic Area Master Plan.

Cobb County’s River Line Master Plan

Cobb County’s River Line Master Plan, approved by the Board of Commissioners in October 2009, focused on the area bordered by Veterans Memorial Highway, the Chattahoochee River, and Buckner Road. Stakeholder and public input was solicited during several months of the planning process. Among other things, it addresses greenspace, historic preservation, land use and non-vehicular travel.
