Cobb County PARKS Department will be hosting a series of public input meetings to discuss planning for the future of new park properties purchased through the 2008 PARKS Bond program. Although there is currently no funding for the development of these properties, the County wants to know how you would like these parcels to be used as parks, once funding is identified. There are a series of meetings being held around the County and one of them is focused on property here in Mableton – 21 acres on Henderson Road at Veterans Memorial Highway at Nickajack Creek. The map shows the property, which is just east of the Publix at Providence Pavilion. The meeting will be March 20 at 6:30 to 8:00pm at the South Cobb Community Center, 620 Lions Club Drive.
The Mableton Improvement Coalition has had a long history of advocating for this property and other acreage that is important for recreation and historical significance. Because of MIC’s work, the 103 acres of county property along Discovery Boulevard will receive county funding from the current SPLOST (1% sales tax) for trails, parking and restrooms. Engineering work is currently underway with hopes of the park opening to the public in late 2019 or early in 2020.
Now it’s time to advocate for this park property on Henderson Road. Be sure to attend this meeting!
